AVOIDING PERSONAL BIAS IN DEVEOLPING A PROFILE

AVOIDING PERSONAL BIAS IN DEVEOLPING A PROFILE

______________________________________________

Profiling is not a simply theories that one comes up, magically,

and lays it out as a lead for investigators to follow. Profiling,

or the process of profiling, works only by means of implementing

deductive reasoning, based on available, known, and tangible

evidence. Each theory,  that build upon another, has to be rooted

and supported by fact. Fact are many things, but, one thing they

are not are OPINIONS based upon what YOU or ANYONE else

would have, could have, should have, or would have done in

the situations. While each profiler takes on the complexity of

removing all emotions, and dealing strictly with what is known;

without interjecting their own morals, values, judgments,

opinions, and or projecting them onto others; namely in the

process of profiling.

Over and over I see, in True Crime chats, that I am in, just

observing the comments rolling in, in You Tube chats, I, as a

Bx Analyst, am continually disappointed with the comments that

I do see; and the lack of genuine understanding of a non

professional, on how crime works; plausible and implausible

theories. One cannot objectively review a case, by simply

considering what "they" would do, how "they" would act, and how

others are "suspect" because they conducted a routine differently

than how the profiler "would have." Simply because other

individuals have different places that they keep their phones,

charge their phones, and what works best for individuals, this

cannot be overly applied or implicate guilt on the part of another

for simply saying or thinking to themselves "NO one leaves their

phone or wallet in the car." That statement is not based in fact,

it is based on assumptions and presumptions of the person

judging, rather than an open-minded approach. If a person

profiling is not aware of biases, it can directly effect the

efficiency and clarity of the overall profile.

While anyone that is observing a true crime case can offer

their opinions, based on their own experiences, THAT very act

is NOT profiling. Profiling has no place for emotions, for

assumptions, and guessing. Every theory MUST have its roots

in evidence. If theory dismisses the evidence that we know,

the theory has to be incorrect.
