BURNOUT


What is BURNOUT? Some people describe it as "just going through

the motions." Some professionals report feeling, at some point

in their career, that what they were doing made "no difference."

Others have described it as "having nothing left to give."

 BURNOUT manifests in many ways: tired, feeling drained, 

lacking enthusiasm. Pulled by projects whose tasks have come

to feel as though they have no meaning. Overall, these people

feel under-appreciated, unimportant, and go about their jobs

in a "mechanical way."

CAUSES OF BURNOUT


1. doing the same type of work with little variation

2. giving a great deal, personally, and not getting back any

appreciation.

3. lack of meaning in work

4. under consistent pressure to perform, produce, and meet

demands

5. conflict with staff

6. having a work environment that allows and ABUNDANCE

of criticism

7. not having the opportunity for professional expression

and their initiative to take on new projects.

8. facing unrealistic demands on your time and energy

9. health problems/personal conflicts

REMEDIES FOR BURNOUT


1. evaluate goals, priorities, expectations, to see if they are

getting you what you want

2. recognize you can be an agent in your own life

3. think of ways to bring variety to your work

4. Take initiative on new projects

5. learn to monitor your own stress

6. try to obtain 7-8 hours of sleep at night

7. engage in friendships that are mutual and reciprocal 

8. learn to ask for what you want, but don't always

expect to get it.

9. learn to work for the rewards of self-confirmation and 

self-reward
