 CATEGORIZING SEXUAL OFFENDERS INTO SUBTYPES

_________________________________________

1. CHILD SEXUAL ABUSERS: child sexual abuse is use of force

and coercion of a sexual nature; when the victim is younger than

13, and the age difference between perpetrator and offender

is five years or greater. Child abusers usually develop a

relationship with the child; in order to manipulate them over time.

A defining feature is the offender's perception that they are in

a sexual relationship that is both mutual and acceptable

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHILD ABUSERS AND RAPISTS

Research shows that these individuals are full of cognitive

distortions; or morphing of the truth into a more appropriate

way of phrasing "the truth." Often, too, research suggests that

show distorted thinking and perceptions as well as

reversal of gender roles.

RAPISTS

In comparison to child sexual abusers, rapist are still likely

to be younger in general. They have socially compensated and

tend to have engaged in former consensual relationships with

women.

RAPISTS VS. VIOLENT OFFENDERS

Rapists have far greater chance of having previous convictions

and their permanent record. Rapists, additionally, tend to be

more aggressive and tend to view children as "prey."Are more

likely, however, to re-offend violently, rather than sexually.

TYPES OF RAPISTS

The major focus on types have focused on the relationship

to victim, digress of aggression, and sexual abuse. 77% of

rapists are KNOWN to their victim.

1. POWER REASSURANCE RAPIST: characterized by feelings

of inadequacy and poor social skills. Typically DOES NOT

injure victims.

2. POWER ASSERTIVE RAPIST: The offenders tended to be

more aggressive. They are likely to use a WEAPON. The main

coping strategy for the victim, to ensure survival is to default

to complete compliance with the offender.

3. ANGER-RETALIATION RAPIST: all about asserting power,

control, and aggression. Enjoys humiliating victims by

sexual acts.

5. SADISTIC RAPIST: re-enacts sexual fantasies of torture and

pain. The offenders engage in fantasy, and sexual deviance that

results in pain to the victim. Inflicting pain is what motivates

this kind of rapist. This type is characterized by extensive
