Dr. Wala was a PhD in Clinical Psychology, who first started
"seeing" Richard Allen, as a patient, in November of 2022-
present (October 2024). She stated that Richard Allen was made
aware of the dangers that could potentially arise in discussing
his case with her. She repeatedly warned Richard that discussing
the case could bring up ethical issues. He told her in April, 2022:
"I want to confess. I killed those two girls. I wanted to rape them,
but he was scared off by the sight and sound of a nearby white
van. He admitted to Dr. Wala that he wanted to apologize to the
the family. He eluded to having a sexual addiction; porn addiction
in early childhood. Richard Allen reported sexually abusing his
sister in childhood. He reports being a victim of sexual abuse in
childhood. He stated that he put branches on the bodies in a panic
to simply quickly cover them and he go undiscovered. He
expressed relief, post confession, and ask for a chaplan after
the session. She reported that he was calm, while discussing,
with little prompting, his crimes; the doctor reports possible
malingering going on during the times of his bizarre behaviors.
The doctor said she became aware that Richard Allen had
confessed to the Warden multiple times as well. She reported
his emotions as up and down; though somewhat erratic.
Sometimes his thought process aware normal on the whole.
No reported hallucinations; auditory or otherwise. We were working
on anxiety and depression as a priority Dr. Wala stated.
In May of 2023, Richard stated, to Dr. Walla, "I killed Abby, I killed
Libby, I killed everyone. I will wipe this world at once." On this same date,
he threatened or incenuated suicidal thoughts and thus was put on
close observation due to his comments directly to his therapist.
When asked why he was playing with his feces, he stated that
there was no water and this made no sense. Self-harm was not a prior
issue, though he had threatened previously.
Dr. Wala, did once consider a potential psychosis present, bc
of Richard's odd continued behavior on the unit. She said while on
constant supervision, he still had use of the tablet. Richard Allen
chose not to have a tv in his cell. He broke the state issued laptop
assigned unto him.
Dr. Wala felt that Situational Psychosis was a potential diagnosis.
Moreover, she felt that he had some of the TRAITS of this diagnosis,
it did not meet the hallmarks for such a diagnosis. He asked for the
Dr.'s help in making phone calls to his wife Kathy, where he wanted to
"confess to his wife about murdering Abby and Libby." He wanted the
Dr. to facilitate these confessions and phone calls.
"I saw my parents that morning. They went to lunch. I drank three beers
Once I got on the trail, I followed the girls. Then I was going to rape
them. I saw their ages, and I saw a white van which scared him, so,
he "wanted to make sure they were dead." He left the scene by staying
off the trail. He said he was able to then go about his life. He admitted
to feeling relief after sharing said confession. He told the doctor that,
above all, whatever happened to him, that he loved his wife; Kathy.
Dr. Wala states that he made progress on his treatment plan
around this time; continuing to work on depression through therapy
and medication compliance.
Richard Allen was re-assessed on Suicide Watch on May 5, 2023.
He was checked on every 10 minutes. On May 9, 2023, he told the
Dr., that he wanted to confess, to "killing the girls." The doctor
redirected him to share his legal concerns with his legal team and
not in therapy. He begged the Dr. in therapy sessions to call his wife.
He wanted to tell Kathy with the Dr. present his "confession." He said
to his wife, "I killed Abby and Libby." She hung up on Richard.
He stated, "She doesn't believe me." (of his wife Kathy).
