FEMALES AS THE AGGRESSOR IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SITUATIONS; THE CASE OF COURTNEY CLENNEY
FEMALE AS THE AGGRESSOR IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
RELATIONSHIPS:
THE CASE OF COURTNEY CLENNEY
___________________________________________________
Only Fans and Instagram model, Courtney Clenney, was
arrested on April 4, 2022, for fatally stabbing her boyfriend;
Christian Obumseli.
Clenney, 27, a Florida model, who, on the day of Obumseli's
death, called 911 to report that her boyfriend had been stabbed
during a violent fight between the two, culminated in Clenney
being charged with 2nd degree murder.
According to the PCA, out of Miami Dade County PD, the initial
conclusions reached by police were later reviewed after
investigators received the conclusions of the Medical Examiner.
The Medical Examiner's findings concluded that Obumseli, 27,
had died of a knife wound that punctured Obumseli's subclavian
artery, in the right side of chest; resulting in his death.
The Miami Dade Police Department then presented and
consulted with the State's Attorney's Office regarding the initial
facts of the case; including subpoenas. The evidence included
a video and recorded statement, 911 calls, records, and all cell
phone extraction data that lead investigators to conclude that
Clenney and Obumseli had been in a "tumultuous relationship
since November 2020." The police noted that there were multiple
incidents of domestic violence, from both sides, over the course
of their relationship.
Footage from surveillance cameras, at their apartment
building in Miami, filmed a little over than a month before
Christian's death, shows the couple violently fighting inside an
elevator.
While certainly not one-sided, the evidence shows there were
prior incidents of Clenney being physically violent with Obumseli.
According to Miami Beach State Attorney, Clenney was arrested
for domestic battery on Obumseli in hotel in July 2022. According
to investigators, the relationship between Clenney and Obumseli
led the two to split up several times, including the last week of
March, when she expelled Christian from her apartment. The
couple made up, two days later, on April 1st; two days before
his death.

APRIL 3, 2022
Miami Dade Police Department reconstructed the timeline
of events of April 3, the day of the murder, to find the day had
begun peacefully with the pair playing with their dogs in their
apartment.
It's still unclear how the situation escalated into a deadly
fight from there. A timeline of Clenney's calls have allowed
investigators to establish that the stabbing had taken place
between 4:43 (when Courtney called her mom for the first time).
And, at 4:57, when she called 911. Eleven minutes later,
before Clenney called 911, to report her boyfriend was, "dying;"
as Courtney could be heard saying in a recorded call.
Investigators say they saw a text message from "Mom"
on Clenney's phone received at 5:25 on April 3, 2022, that
mentioned self-defense and advised that Courtney not to speak
to the police. Courtney's version of events was inconsistent with
the findings of the Medical Examiner.
On August 9th, 2022, Clenney was arrested in Hawaii where
she was in rehab for substance abuse and PTSD. According to the
arrest warrant, MPD concluded that Clenney and Obumseli were
in a toxic domestic violence relationship for over two years;
escalating into Clenney "throwing weapons on various occasions."
These incidents culminated on April 3, 2022, with Clenney
acting without justification and causing the death of Christian
Obumseli by stabbing him in an imminently dangerous act
that demonstrated a depraved mind without regard for
human life.
